Dish May Be Close to Adding Epix HD

Washington, D.C. (December 4, 2009) -- Epix HD, the new pay movie channel, could soon be coming to the Dish Network high-def lineup.

According to Reuters, Epix says it's in "meaningful discussions" with Dish to carry the channel, which has premiered such exclusive movie blockbusters as Iron Man,
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Cloverfield and The Duchess.

Mark Greenburg, president and CEO of Epix, which is owned by three Hollywood studios, added that he expects to secure another carriage deal by early 2010.

As of now, only Verizon's FiOS TV service carries Epix, which launched on October 30. The telco is charging Epix subscribers $9.99 a month.

"If a deal slides from this year to early next year that's fine by us. It's more important to get the deals right because the deals last for three to five years," Greenburg said, according to Reuters.

The executive blamed the poor economy as the reason why more TV providers have not added Epix.

DIRECTV, Comcast and Time Warner have all publicly expressed that they are unlikely to add the channel at this time.
