Dish Network Eyes Cubs In HD?
The satcaster could be looking to add WGN HD.
By Swanni
That's according to an article in today's Chicago Tribune.
Both the standard-def and HD editions of WGN carry the Chicago Cubs, which makes the channel highly sought by baseball fans.
And because WGN has national rights to the Cubs broadcasts, viewers outside the Chicago area can see the games.
The Tribune writes today that Dish Network and WGN "are said to be negotiating" but the newspaper did not cite sources.
Spokesmen for both Dish and WGN would not confirm there are ongoing negotiations.
Dish Network said last month that WGN HD is one of two dozen high-def channels that it hopes to add this year.
In a related issue, Chicago viewers yesterday were prevented from watching Comcast SportsNet's HD broadcast of the Chicago White Sox-Cleveland Indians game due to a transmission problem.
However, a Comcast SportsNet spokesman says the problem has now been resolved.
