At Same Time

Las Vegas
(January 9,
2012) -- With a baby
kangaroo in his arms, Dish Network CEO Joe Clayton today
introduced his company's new 'Hopper' HD DVR which can record
six HD shows at the same time.
Clayton, who unveiled the Hopper today at a press conference at
the Consumer Electronics Show, proclaimed that the DVR exceeds
any digital recorder now offered by Dish's rival, DIRECTV. The
latter this month introduced an HD DVR that can record five
shows at the same time.
(Note: The Dish Hopper does not have six tuners; in fact, it has
only three. But the satcaster is able to claim it can record six
shows at once because it will automatically record the four
major networks in primetime plus two shows of your own
choosing.)
Clayton said the Hopper will also:
* Store up to 250 hours of HD recording or 1,000 hours of
standard-def programs.
* Automatically record all primetime shows from ABC, CBS, NBC
and Fox and keep the shows stored and available for viewing for
eight days.
* Have a 2-terabyte hard drive.
* Include an On-Demand feature that enables viewers to watch
Blockbuster movies without an Internet connection.
* Come with a companion set-top called "Joey" that enables Dish
subs to watch shows in up to four different rooms.
In other news, Clayton said Dish was also launching a new
Broadband service that will be targeted to roughly eight million
rural residents who can't get Internet access from telcos or
cable comapnies.
