The Disney executive noted
that
Blu-ray players will play the DVDs, which is satisfactory for
many viewers.
Despite Iger's comments, Rentrak recently found that Blu-ray
rentals are up 53.8 percent in 2009 and other studies have shown
a sharp increase in both Blu-ray player and disc sales.
Swanni's Take:
If Bob Iger wants higher sales of his Blu-ray discs, well then,
lower the damn prices. The Blu-ray version of a typical movie
still costs $5-10 more than the DVD. That's outrageous and,
consequently, not surprising that many consumers are reluctant
to upgrade their DVD collections to Blu-ray.
