The research firm said Samsung replaced Sony as the leading seller of LCD flat-panels, capturing 12.8 percent of the market in North America. Sony finished second in the category with 12.6 percent while Vizio was third with 12.5 percent.
Samsung was also the top seller of all flat-panel sets, including both Plasma and LCD, with 13.4 percent market share. Vizio was second with 12.2 percent and Sony was third with 11.2 percent.
DisplaySearch said Panasonic again was the top seller of Plasma TVs in North America, generating 33 percent of overall sales. LG Electronics was second with 19 percent.
The company said Vizio posted its strongest combined flat-panel showing to date, increasing its market share from 10.3 percent to 12.2 percent.
Despite Sony losing its top LCD ranking, the company maintained its lead in sets 40 inches or larger.
DisplaySearch said LCD TV sales jumped 59 percent in the first quarter, compared to last year's first quarter. Plasma set sales fell nine percent in this year's first quarter.
