Washington, D.C. (October 2, 2008) --
DIRECTV has added local High-Definition channels in the Springfield/Holyoke, Massachusetts area, bringing its local high-def coverage to 98 markets.
The satcaster says the 98 cities with local high-def coverage represents more than 83 percent of U.S. TV households. DIRECTV adds that it will offer local HD channels in 121 cities by year's end.
DIRECTV said it added WGGB/ABC, WWLP/NBC and WSHM/CBS in the Springfield/Holyoke market.
In its release, the satcaster did not mention the local stations for other networks in the Springfield area. Sometimes, cable and satellite TV providers can not offer all local channels in their lineups due to compensation disputes with the local stations.
