DIRECTV Could Lose AMC, MSG This Friday
TVPredictions.com
Washington, D.C. (December 28,
2009) -- DIRECTV could lose AMC,
IFC, MSG, the Sundance Channel and other Rainbow Media-owned
channels as early as this Friday, according to Multichannel
News.
The satcaster is negotiating a new carriage agreement with
Rainbow Media, with the current one expiring this Friday.
Multichannel News
reports that DIRECTV says "we are actively
negotiating with them, having productive
discussions."
But Rainbow Media refused to comment, the
publication reports. If the two sides can not
reach an agreement by Friday, Rainbow Media can
order DIRECTV to remove the channels from its
lineup.

DIRECTV is also embroiled with a
programming dispute with Comcast, the owner of the Versus sports
channel. The satcaster was forced to pull Versus off the air
four months ago when the two sides could not reach a new
carriage agreement.
Fortunately for DIRECTV HD viewers, most of the Rainbow Media
channels in question are not available in high-def in the
satcaster lineup. For instance, AMC, Sundance and IFC are not in
HD on DIRECTV.
