DIRECTV Launches Cinema Plus
By Swanni
Washington, D.C. (October 8,
2010) --
DIRECTV has launched its much-anticipated
'Cinema Plus' VOD service
which promises to offer 4000 TV show and movie titles via
high-speed Internet connections.
DIRECTV says all new movie titles in the Cinema Plus lineup will
be in high-def. The Cinema Plus titles also can be viewed
instantly. The new movie releases cost from $3.99 to $5.99, but
many of the TV shows and older titles can be viewed for free.
DIRECTV's channel 1000 is expected to house the Cinema Plus
offering. However, as of this morning, the channel had not been
updated with a lineup.
(Update: channel 1000 now has the lineup.)
DIRECTV, though, had posted the lineup of
4,000 plus shows at its
web site.
On this page, users can
select shows or movies for recording, which will then add the
titles to their HD DVR's queue. To select shows, the subscriber
must set up an account at DIRECTV.com.
According to DIRECTV's web site, Cinema Plus users must have an
HD DVR which is connected to a
home network router using an
Ethernet cable.
(DIRECTV says your Internet service must have
750 Kbps or higher speed.)
DIRECTV is also offering a self-installation kit that will
enable you to
set up your HD DVR for DIRECTV Cinema Plus, including a wireless
adapter and easy step-by-step instructions. For more
information, call DIRECTV at 1-800-531-5000.
