Will DIRECTV Unveil Nomad Today?
By Swanni
Washington, D.C. (September 27,
2011) -- DIRECTV today may launch
its much-buzzed about video transfer device called Nomad,
reports the web site Gizmodo.com
Update: As of the morning of Sept. 29, DIRECTV still
hasn't launched Nomad. You can track the launch by going to this:
DIRECTV page.
The site says the device, which will cost $149.99 plus $9.99 for
shipping, will transfer content from your DIRECTV HD DVR and
download it to a mobile product or computer which has a DIRECTV
app installed. However, the Nomad must be have a hard-wired
Internet connection.
Gizmodo writes that the Nomad will store 100 hours of HD content
and 200 hours of standard-def programming. (PPV, OnDemand and 3D
content can not be stored on the Nomad.)
If the Gizmodo report is true, the Nomad will not compete
directly with the Slingbox which allows users to watch their
home video channels live on a mobile device. The Nomad would
only enable recorded content.
Gizmodo also writes that programs added to a Nomad are only
available for transfer to a mobile device for 30 days.
