Washington, D.C.
(April 25, 2007) --
DIRECTV says it hasn't decided if it will air the daytime drama
Passions in High-Definition.
The satcaster announced today that it will exclusively carry the NBC soap opera after it ends its network run in September.
Under a new agreement with NBC Universal, DIRECTV will air four new episodes Monday through Thursday on channel 101.
But DIRECTV spokesman Robert Mercer said it's unclear if the new episodes will air in high-def.
"We are evaluating (HD) as we move forward in bringing Passions to DIRECTV," Mercer told TVPredictions.com.

NBC does not currently broadcast Passions in high-def. In fact, CBS' The Young & Restless is the only daytime soap in High-Definition.
Passions, a quirky one-hour soap that focuses on four New England families, is now in its eighth season on NBC. DIRECTV says the new season will run in its current time slot at 2 p.m. ET.
The satcaster says it expects the current cast and crew will return when shooting begins in August on the new DIRECTV episodes.
“Passions fans no longer need to mourn the demise of their beloved program as it has found new life on DIRECTV,” said Eric Shanks, executive vice president of Entertainment for DIRECTV. “We care about this show and are extremely proud to give it an exclusive home here at DIRECTV.”
