Washington, D.C.
(May 6, 2007) --
DIRECTV has unveiled a new portable satellite system that can
display TV channels while you're on the road.
However, those channels do not include High-Definition networks, according to DIRECTV's customer service.
Called DIRECTV Sat-Go, the portable system is based on DIRECTV's D11 set-top, which does not pick up high-def signals.
DIRECTV Sat-Go, which costs $1,499, can be ordered by calling 1-800-DIRECTV; it will also be available soon at national retailers.

The system comes in an easy-to-carry briefcase-like design and includes a 17-inch LCD monitor with an integrated satellite receiver, flat antenna and replaceable/rechargeable battery.

DIRECTV's 17-inch LCD monitor to go.
While you can't get high-def, the system will offer other non-HD DIRECTV programming and features, including premium sports packages such as the NFL Sunday Ticket.
The system requires no installation and should be able to pick up DIRECTV programming within minutes of being turned on -- assuming the user is within range of the satcaster's satellite.
"DIRECTV’s digital satellite technology enables us to do what no cable service can, offer consumers TV programming that they can watch wherever they are,” said Eric Shanks, executive vice president of DIRECTV Entertainment. “DIRECTV Sat-Go is the perfect companion for a summer road trip and the ultimate tailgating accessory for any sporting event."
