Poll Results: Is There Still Room
For TiVo
By Swanni
Washington, D.C. (December 27,
2011) -- Nearly 58 percent of
TVPredictions.com readers say their Digital Video Recorder
performs at an "excellent" or "very good" level, according to a
poll conducted here last week.
Despite loving the concept
of the DVR, some DVR owners express frustration in message
boards and other community forums with the actual product. But
the TVPredictions.com poll, which was taken by 897 readers,
suggests that the majority of DVR owners actually love their DVR.
29.9 percent of our readers said their DVR is "very good" while
28 percent said it was "excellent." Another 24 percent said it
was "good."
Only 6.5 percent called their DVR "poor" while 11.7 percent said
it was "fair."
The high marks given to their DVRs would suggest that consumers
are generally satisfied with their performance and would
likely not be interested in an alternative service.
This would seem to be bad news for TiVo which is battling to
persuade consumers to switch from their cable and
satellite-branded DVRs to a TiVo digital recorder. TiVo's
subscriber totals have plunged from more than four million in
2006 to around two million now. The company is hoping that new
partnerships with DIRECTV and a handful of cable companies will
turn that around. But if consumers are happy with their current
DVRs, they may not be interested in switching to TiVo.
Roughly 90 percent of current DVRs in the home are not TiVo DVRs.
