The satcaster credited the increasing demand for High-Definition services as a reason for the hike.
In its second quarter financial report, EchoStar also said its quarterly profit rose thanks to the added subscribers with net income jumping to $224 million from $168 million in last year's second quarter, according to Reuters.
EchoStar's Dish Network added 850,000 gross subscribers in the second quarter; 170,000 net subs and ended the quarter with 13.59 million subs, an increase from 12.46 million a year ago.
The satcaster added that average monthly revenue per subscriber rose five percent to $66.06 due to price increases for services such as high-def and Digital Video Recorders. (DIRECTV said yesterday its average monthly per sub is $76.43.)
Reuters reports that EchoStar also contended that the Patent and Trademark Office has issued a "final office action" rejecting all DVR hardware patent claims made by TiVo against the company.
But Reuters notes that the federal agency did not reject the software claims. A Texas jury has ruled EchoStar violated TiVo's DVR software patents.
