Maryland Gov.
Ehrlich Helps "O'Malley" in HBO's The Wire
The outgoing
governor gets an amusing cameo role in this week's episode of
the Baltimore crime drama.

--
Maryland Gov. Robert Ehrlich (R)
apparently has no hard feelings towards his 2006
campaign opponent, Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley (D).
In this Sunday's episode of HBO's The Wire,
Ehrlich, who lost to O'Malley this month, has a cameo
role in which he helps a character that's loosely based
on the real-life Baltimore mayor.
In a pivotal scene, Thomas Carcetti, the show's
newly-elected Baltimore mayor, comes to the Maryland
State House for a meeting with the Republican governor.
The mayor wants to ask the governor for funding to erase
a deficit in the city's education department. However,
both men know that they are likely to run against each
other for governor in two years. (Yes, just like Ehrlich
and O'Malley.)

So, the GOP governor, who is not named, forces Carcetti
to cool his heels outside his office for a few hours. Finally,
Carcetti gets angry and begins to walk out of the building.
However, before he leaves, he is met by Ehrlich who's playing a
security guard.
"The governor will see you now," Ehrlich tells Carcetti/O'Malley.
Ehrlich, who will leave office next month, has frequently said
he's a big fan of The Wire, which chronicles the impact
of crime and drugs on Baltimore. O'Malley, however, has said the
show portrays Baltimore in a negative light.
The Ehrlich episode, which will not be in High-Definition TV,
will air Sunday at 10 p.m. ET.
