3D HDTV: Coming Soon?
But the technology is outpacing the content.

Washington, D.C. (July 20, 2007) -- High-Definition TVs that offer 3-D images could be ready in the next year or so, according to an article in the London Guardian.
Philips and several other companies are working on new 3-D technologies that will make objects appear to be surrounding the viewer, the newspaper reports.
Viewers will not need special goggles to view the images, as they did with past 3-D TV and movie presentations.
The Guardian reports that a prototype Philips 3-D HDTV would now cost $20,500 because of the complexity of the set. But the price is expected to fall sharply before it actually reaches market.
Only way for that to work would be to sit in a specific location in reference to the set. Moving left or right more then a few inches would throw everything off *sigh*
Exactly. How else would each eye receive only the image intended for it? I'm not totally against the polarizing glasses. With today's bright displays a very convincing illusion could be achieved. The glasses wouldn't cost more than a pair of inexpensive sunglasses.
If competitively priced, with visual quality akin to a hi-end 1080p set, then 3D HDTV should be a success as long as plenty of content is available.
The ersatz 3D "conversion" from 2D legacy content is what I am now looking at for my 2,000+ title film library. Add HD upconversion, via Teranex, and one now has a NEW copyrighted film library for licensing & balance sheet enhancement.
Only concern is what do we all do when Ultra HD [16x better picture quality @ 7,680 × 4,320 pixels ] comes in by, say, 2010? This looks like "look'in out the window!"
Though with the human eye having trouble distinguishing picture quality between 720p & 1080p [at 6+ feet], then perhaps all the hype about pixels is a non-issue?
This all sounds great for those of you who can see pretty well out of both eyes...with or with out glasses. Don't get me wrong I love my HDTV ( I can see clearly now, I can see all the objects more clearly!)
I have no depth perception. Soooo, I am both envious and happy for you...this is awesome can't wait for more reviews.
MMMMMMM... maybe an eye transplant??????
