Swanni's 2008 Predictions: Apple Will Dump Apple TV
Here is the text summary of Swanni's ninth prediction for 2008:

Apple will dump Apple TV by year's end. Despite much hype, the Internet TV set-top has been a bust, selling only about 400,000 units. Apple will try to boost sales in early 2008 by introducing some new features such as high-def video. But it won't work, largely because Americans have "set-top fatigue."

I predict Swanni will dump the youtube delivery of his kernels of wisdom. This media is completely inappropriate, and while I will browse through written articles of less interest, I really have to be piqued to bother clicking through on these clips.

As for the apple TV player, as it stands it is of limited use - although some people love them... However, delivering my computer music to my living room studio is desirable - although TIVO and airtunes do that reasonably well. Video delivery to my projector would be great too, but it really needs more features and compatibilities. A few good tweaks could make it attractive for me - if not middle amerika. The slingshot is another almost there concept.

I certainly like the idea of having a good interface to my own archive of music, still photos and video clips on my living room media system. Music and photos are reasonably well served now. However, the variety of video formats, the disparity in quality, the challenge of transferring good quality HD, and the restrictions of DRM make it a challenge to implement well.
