July 30: Swanni's 10 Hottest Shows In HDTV!

Washington, D.C. (July 30, 2010) -- High-Definition TVs are now in more than 40 million U.S. homes and there are scores of high-def programming choices.

But which shows should you watch? And why?

 Every day here at TVPredictions.com, I scan the HD programming aisles and serve up 10 programs so good -- so hot! -- that you can't miss them. Sports, movies, primetime comedies and drama -- they're all there and in beautiful high-def.

We call this list, "The Hottest Shows in HDTV!" And here they are for Friday, July 30, 2010: (All times Eastern -- and don't forget the link below to today's 'HD Hottie -- in fact, today there are 7 of them!

 1. Golf
 The second round of the U.S. Senior Open.
ESPN 2, 5 p.m.

2. I Love You, Beth Cooper
Hayden Panettiere stars as the obligatory hot subject of a high school nerd's dreams.

Cinemax West, 6:30 p.m.

3. MLB Baseball
Braves at Reds or Tigers at Red Sox.
MLB Network, 7 p.m.

 4. 27 Dresses
Katherine Heigl stars as a perpetual bridesmaid who can't seem to  catch the ring. Of course, after watching the gorgeous Heigl for 27 seconds in 27 Dresses, you realize the premise is implausible, if not outright laughable. But Heigl's charm makes it a frothy and fun flick. The obligatory hot bride herself, Malin Akerman, also shines in support.

FX, 8 p.m.
5. Friday Night Lights (new)
 In tonight's show, the walls are closing in on hard-drinkin' Tim Riggins; meanwhile, East Dillon prepares to play West Dillon and tensions are running high! Oh, the humanity!

Taken
Liam Neeson stars as an ex-government operative who's forced back into the field when his daughter is kidnapped in Paris. Maggie Grace plays the obligatory hot daughter while Famke Janssen is almost unrecognizable as Liam's bitchy ex-wife. Despite Neeson's advancing years (he's 57 now), his early days as an amateur boxer serves him well here and the action is fast paced. Good movie.

Cinemax, 10 p.m.

Matinee
Joe Dante directed this hidden gem of a movie about a small Florida town in the 1960s that's in a frenzy over the sudden visit of a famous horror film director -- and reports there may be a nuclear attack from the Russkies. Yeah, I know, sounds odd, but it's both funny and touching.
Starz Kids, 11:25 p.m.
9. Late Show With David Letterman
Tonight's guests include Madonna in this encore performance.
 CBS, 11:35 p.m.

10. The Tonight Show With Jay Leno (new)
Tonight's guests include Gabourey Sidibe who will wander by to hawk her new Showtime show, The Big C.
