October 16: Swanni's 10 Hottest Shows In HDTV!

By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (October 16, 2009) -- High-Definition TVs are now in more than 40 million U.S. homes and there are scores of high-def programming choices.

But which shows should you watch? And why?

Every day here at TVPredictions.com, I scan the HD programming aisles and serve up 10 programs so good -- so hot! -- that you can't miss them. Sports, movies, primetime comedies and drama -- they're all there and in beautiful high-def.

We call this list, "The Hottest Shows in HDTV!" And here they are for Friday, October 16, 2009: (All times Eastern -- and don't forget the link below to today's 'HD Hottie -- in fact, today there are 7 of them!

1. MLB Baseball Playoff Doubleheader
Phillies at Dodgers in game two at 4:30 p.m. on TBS; Angels at Yanks in game one on Fox.
TBS at 4:30 p.m.; Fox at 7:30 p.m.

Bonus Pick:
Juno
Ellen Page plays a wise cracking teenager who gets preggers and  becomes a surrogate Mom to a quirky suburban couple (Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman). The predictable plot is lifted by a career-making performance from Page who just may be the most exciting young actress to come along in years. Garner is also good as the yearning Mom-to-be.

See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Jennifer Garner.

HBO
West, 7:30 p.m.

2. College Football

Pittsburgh at Rutgers
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Erin Andrews.
ESPN, 8 p.m.

Bonus Pick:
Max Payne
Mark Wahlberg stars in this cartoonish action film based on the third person shooter video game. Lots of fun if you don't take it very seriously -- or you're not easily grossed out by flesh being torn away by dozens of handgun blasts. Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Silence) plays a Wahlberg obligatory hot love interest, albeit for an all-too-short amount of time.
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Olga Kurylenko.
HBO 8 p.m.

3. M1 Affliction Challenge
The title sounds like a documentary on trying to cure someone afflicted with the swine flu, but it's actually Mixed Martial Arts action with Team USA East vs. Team Benelux.
HDNet, 8 p.m.

4
. Ghost Whisperer (new)
Jennifer Love Hewitt, America's favorite big-breasted, ghost-gabbin' gal, tonight investigates a ghost haunting in a morgue. Well, talk about going to the source...
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Jennifer Love Hewitt.
CBS, 8 p.m.

5. The Eye
The breathtakingly beautiful Jessica Alba stars as a concert violinist (okay, this is a sci-fi/horror story so we can stretch the imagination a bit, can't we?) who suddenly sees frightening images after a double eye transplant. If you don't take this 'work of art' too seriously, sit back for a fun, cheesy time. The Mystery Science 3000 guys would love this movie -- so watch it and have your own MST3K party.
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Jessica Alba.
Showtime West, 8:15 p.m.

6. Medium (new)
Program descript: "Allison is having strange visions of symbols that could lead her to a serial killer." Big deal. Just about every CBS star runs into a serial killer before each episode is over; CBS primetime has more serial killers than Leavenworth. (Note: Ironically, over at NBC at 9 p.m., where Medium used to air, the network is showing a program called, Secrets of the Lost Symbol. The NBC show is not in high-def, of course; Jeff Zucker still runs the network. But it appears that the peacock and the Big Eye are both seeing those wacky symbols. Hmm, could Dan Brown's new book have something to do with that...
CBS, 9 p.m.

7. The Jay Leno Show (new)
Tonight, Jay chats up Rachel Griffiths, who will hawk her ABC show, Brothers & Sisters.
NBC, 10 p.m.

8. Real Time With Bill Maher (new)
The pasty-faced pundit bats around the day's hottest issues with three of the biggest egos ever seen on one stage at the same time: Alec Baldwin, Garry Shandling and MSNBC's Chris Matthews. Oh, Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley will be there, too. Make that four biggest egos.
HBO, 10 p.m.

Bonus Pick:
Definitely, Maybe

Ryan Reynolds (Mr. Scarlett Johansson) stars in a frothy but funny farce about a Dad who reveals to his young daughter why he proposed to his soon-to-be ex-wife. Isla Fisher, Elizabeth Banks and Rachel Weisz play the three obligatory hot girlfriends, each of whom could be the soon-to-be ex-wife.
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Isla Fisher.
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Elizabeth Banks.

MoMax, 11:30 p.m.

9. The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien (new)
Tonight's guests include Newark Mayor Cory Booker, who will wander by and pretend to be in a feud with the host.
NBC, 11:35 p.m.

10. Late Show With David Letterman (new)
Tonight's guests include Uma Thurman who will try to fend off the host's advances like she did Vivica Fox's kicks in Kill Bill 2.
CBS, 11:35 p.m.
