By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (October 23, 2009) -- High-Definition TVs are now in more than 40 million U.S. homes and there are scores of high-def programming choices.

But which shows should you watch? And why?

Every day here at TVPredictions.com, I scan the HD programming aisles and serve up 10 programs so good -- so hot! -- that you can't miss them. Sports, movies, primetime comedies and drama -- they're all there and in beautiful high-def.

We call this list, "The Hottest Shows in HDTV!" And here they are for Friday, October 23, 2009: (All times Eastern -- and don't forget the link below to today's 'HD Hottie -- in fact, today there are 5 of them!

1. The Strangers
Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman star as a young couple who are terrorized by a band of thugs who take over their home. Tyler shines (and screams) as the obligatory hot damsel in distress in this impressive directorial debut from Bryan Bertino. Based on a true story; it will spook you out.
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Liv Tyler.
Cinemax West, 6:45 p.m.

Bonus Pick:
Pineapple Express
Seth Rogen and James Franco star in this uneven but often amusing account of two potheads who accidentally witness a murder. Gary Cole delivers the funny as a corrupt cop while Rosie Perez catapults  out of obscurity to play his sidekick.
Starz 7:05 p.m.

2. NBA Pre-Season Doubleheader
Hawks at Magic, followed by the Nuggets at the Lakers.
ESPN, 8 p.m.

3. College Football

Rutgers at Army.
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Erin Andrews.
ESPN 2, 8 p.m.

4. M1 Affliction Challenge
The title sounds like a documentary on trying to cure someone afflicted with the swine flu, but it's actually Mixed Martial Arts action with Team Spain vs. Team Japan.
HDNet, 8 p.m.

5
. Ghost Whisperer (new)
Jennifer Love Hewitt, America's favorite big-breasted, ghost-gabbin' gal, tonight investigates why her son seems to be acting strangely. Hmm, could it be that he sees dead people, too?
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Jennifer Love Hewitt.
CBS, 8 p.m.

6. Dollhouse (new)
Eliza Dushku stars as Echo, an 'off-the-grid' operative who takes on a different identity each week. Tonight, Echo investigates Sierra's connection to a murderous plot. Natch.
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Eliza Dushku.
Fox, 9 p.m.

Bonus Pick:
Monk
The anal-retentive one suspects foul play in the death of Sharona's uncle.
USA Network, 9 p.m.

7. The Jay Leno Show
(new)
Tonight, Jay chats up First Lady Michelle Obama; hopes she brings her hula-hoop.
NBC, 10 p.m.

8. The Bourne Ultimatum
Matt Damon stars in the third in the trilogy about a contract assassin who battles bouts of amnesia while hired gunmen are trying to kill him. (And you think you're having an odd Friday night?) Julia Stiles plays an obligatory hot female CIA agent who lends assistance (you think they would hire America Ferrera for this role?!); Joan Allen and David Strathairn shine in support as spooks with competing agendas.
See our 'HD Hottie' profile of Julia Stiles.

Cinemax, 10 p.m.

Bonus Pick:
The Doors
Val Kilmer gives the performance of his life as Doors lead singer Jim Morrison who died of a heart attack at 27 after channeling some of the greatest rock songs of all time. Arguably director Oliver Stone's best film, The Doors takes you back to a time when anything could happen -- and usually did. Meg Ryan, Kevin Dillon, Kyle MacLachlan and Frank Whaley all shine in support. Great music; great acting; great film.
HBO Signature, 11 p.m.

9. The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien
Tonight's guests include Robin Williams; hopes he brings his Lorazepam.
NBC, 11:35 p.m.

10. Late Show With David Letterman
Tonight's guests include
Amy Poehler who will wander by to hawk her show, Parks and Recreation, and then tell the carnal-minded host that she doesn't want to 'park' or 'recreate' with him.
