Hastings Gives Blu-ray a Boost
The retailer now rents Blu-ray titles in all stores.

That's according to an article by Video Business.
The publication reports that Hastings, which is based in Texas, will only carry Blu-ray rival HD DVD in about one-third of its stores.
But after a new revenue-sharing deal with Sony, the leading supporter of the Blu-ray format, Hastings will offer Blu-ray in all stores. Additionally, it will expand its Blu-ray inventory in those stores.
“It basically helped us to spread (Blu-ray) to all of our stores and not have to make that much of a financial investment,” Mason Goodfellow, Hastings' video category manager, told Video Business. “We might be able to get in as many as eight to 10 copies per title (in one store) without revenue-sharing, that might have been three to four copies.”
Sony earlier this year got a similar boost when Blockbuster announced it would carry Blu-ray exclusively in 1,450 stores while HD DVDs would only be made available in about 250 Blockbusters.
Hastings Entertainment stores are in 21 states, but mostly in small cities.
