Blu-ray's 300 Wins 'Best High-Def DVD' Award
Home Media Magazine issues first annual awards for high-def discs.

The Blu-ray 300 was named the High-Def Title of the year by Home Media Magazine, which sponsored the High-Def Disc Awards. (300 was based loosely on the ancient battle between the Persians and Spartans.)
The victory will undoubtedly give Blu-ray boosters reason to crow. But the HD DVD edition of 300 won the award for 'Best Bonus Feature' for its bluescreen picture-in-picture.

300 captured two high-def DVD awards.
The bluescreen PIP allows viewers to watch a scene while simultaneously looking at how it was filmed in the smaller window.
The awards, which were announced this week during the High-Def 2.0 conference in Century City, California, also named Casino Royale as the top Blu-ray live action film and Hot Fuzz as the best HD DVD live action movie.
In other awards:
* Ratatouille (Blu-ray) won for Best Animation.
* The Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (Blu-ray) captured the Best Picture Quality award.
* Transformers (HD DVD) won for Best Audio Quality.
* Universal Studios was honored for 'Most Innovative Use of New Technology' for its Internet-based shopping feature.
