HD DVD Group Cancels CES Event
The move comes after Warner's endorsement of Blu-ray.

The announcement came hours after Warner Bros. revealed that it will endorse Blu-ray in the high-def disc format war against HD DVD.
The move, which was predicted last month by this web site, now gives Blu-ray the exclusive backing of five major studios while HD DVD has just two.
Several industry analysts have already opined that the Warner nod will eventually give Blu-ray a victory in the war.
The HD DVD Promotional Group, the trade organization for the high-def format, acknowledged that the CES cancellation was due to the timing of the Warner announcement.
Warner was scheduled to participate in the event, according to the invitation distributed to members of the press.
"Based on the timing of the Warner Home Video announcement today, we have decided to postpone our CES 2008 press conference scheduled for Sunday, January 6th at 8:30 p.m. in the Wynn Hotel. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause," the HD DVD group said.
The organization added that it's discussing the "potential impact" of the Warner decision with other HD DVD partner companies "and evaluating next steps."
"We believe the consumer continues to benefit from HD DVD's commitment to quality and affordability – a bar that is critical for the mainstream success of any format," the group's statement said.
