DIRECTV Puts HDNet On Pause
Channel is removed to make room for the NFL Sunday Ticket.
By Phillip Swann

Washington, D.C. (September 17, 2006) -- Last week it was TNT HD. This week, HDNet.

DIRECTV today temporarily removed HDNet from its programming lineup to make room for the additional HD broadcasts of football's NFL Sunday Ticket.

The satcaster last Sunday removed TNT HD, but TNT today is offering a HD broadcast of a NASCAR Nextel Cup race, which typically generates high ratings. So, HDNet gets pulled instead.

DIRECTV will return HDNet to the lineup at 6:30 p.m. ET.

DIRECTV officials have acknowledged that its current satellites have little room available for additional HD networks. However, it will soon launch two new satellites to expand their high-def lineups.
