Washington, D.C.
(April 16, 2007) -- KING 5, the NBC affiliate in Seattle,
expanded its local news coverage in High-Definition
this morning.
KING's high-def production will include news graphics and helicopter images as well as segments from the studio and newsroom. The Seattle Towercam, located on Queen Anne, will also be in HD.
"This significant investment in our studios and in equipment brings our audience the cleanest, crispest viewing experience available,” said Ray Heacox, president and general manager of KING 5.
Station executives say KING 5 is the first in Seattle to produce the news in high-def, although KOMO, the ABC affiliate there, has also broadcast news programs in HD.
"With this expansion, KING 5 offers viewers the largest volume of HD news content in the market and advertisers will see the benefit of running ads in HD, providing a larger, clearer, more visually appealing ad for viewers," the station said in a statement.
