The station, known as 2NEWS in Salt Lake City, made the switch yesterday with the 5:30 p.m. newscast.
“This is the most exciting thing to happen to TV in my career of 30 years,” Kip Greene, Channel 2’s director of engineering, said in a statement on the station's web site.
KUTV says it used new HD cameras to film yesterday's Salt Lake City Marathon in high-def.
"As the multicolored sea of people wearing bright jogging clothes passed through the gateway, HD cameras brought clean and crisp images, like never before seen on KUTV airwaves," the station said.
There are now roughly 80 local stations that broadcast the news in high-def.
