That's according to an article in Brand Week magazine.
Following other Plasma makers such as Panasonic and Philips, Hitachi last year introduced a line of "1080p" Plasma sets.
However, it should be noted that Hitachi says its 1080 sets include a "1080p PictureMaster IV video processor" and 1080p-compatible HDMI connections. The sets offer 1024 x 1080 lines of resolution compared to 1,920 x 1080 on 'Full HD 1080p sets.
The 1080p HDTV, which is priced higher than 720p and 1080i sets, has become an important part of the industry's effort to increase profits in the face of falling TV prices.
The set purports to offer a better picture resolution than its rivals, although high-def Blu-ray and HD DVD discs are the only commercial content available in 1080p.

The centerpiece of Hitachi's new ad campaign.
Brand Week notes that DisplaySearch, a research firm, says Hitachi is garnering just 1.5 percent of overall TV set sales.
The publication says Hitachi will try to boost those sales by launching an Internet-heavy advertising campaign this month, spending as much as $30 million. The campaign will be themed, "Power Unleashed."
