-- Hitachi next month will launch a 50-inch Plasma HDTV
that can display 1,080 lines for $2499.
The TV maker says it will be the industry's first 50-inch flat-panel 1080 set available for less than $2,500.
Hitachi's HD1080 50-inch HDTV (model P50H401) will feature a total of 1.3 million pixels using a 1280 x 1080 pixel array. The set was showcased at last week's Consumer Electronics Show.

“This new 50-inch television is engineered to be a better match for the dominant 1080 HDTV format and packs more pixels on screen than comparable products. Hitachi Plasma technology offers superior motion resolution, color depth and viewing angles for flat screen television viewers," said Bill Whalen, Hitachi's director of product development.
Hitachi said all 2007 flat-panel sets will include its fourth generation 1080p PictureMaster™ IV video processor and three 1080p-compatible HDMI inputs.
