Washington, D.C.
(April 22, 2007) -- Hockey fans are 80 percent more likely
to have purchased a High-Definition TV than the average
Canadian.
That's according to a survey conducted by BBM RTS, a research firm which does syndicated studies of consumer behavior in Canada. The study's results were reported by Mediaincanada.com.
The high-def interest is good news for Canadian (and presumably U.S.) broadcasters who are showing this month's first round of the National Hockey League in HD.

However, the BBM study, which was conducted late last year, also shows that hockey fans are more likely to perform many activities than the average Canadian. For instance:
* Hockey fans in Canada are twice as likely to watch a Pay Per View event or movie than the average Canadian.
* Hockey fans are 3.6 times more likely to have purchased a lottery ticket than the average person.
After hockey, the top three TV programs that hockey fans watch are: News/Current Affairs (66 percent); Movies (65 percent); CFL Football (42 percent).
