HDTV Poll: Holiday Shoppers Prefer LCD to Plasma By 2-1
Consumer Reports also says only 38 percent of consumers have begun their holiday shopping.

That's according to a poll released today by Consumer Reports magazine.
The poll found that 54 percent of the likely flat-screen buyers will purchase LCD HDTVs while 29 percent said they would purchase Plasma sets.
Another 16 percent of likely buyers of flat-screen sets said they did not know what type they would purchase.
Consumer Reports says 47 percent are planning to buy a set 42 inches or larger while 15 percent will get one more than 50 inches in size.
Among married couples, men said they will buy a high-def set for a "better picture" while women said it will add style and floor space to the room.
The biggest reason why consumers want a flat-screen set this holiday season? Price.
Last year's poll said more than one-third of consumers were planning to spend $1,500 or more for their TV purchase. But this year that percentage fell to 24 percent.
Consumers are apparently aware that high-def set prices have fallen by roughly 30 percent over the last year.
More good news for retailers: Only 38 percent of consumers say they have begun their holiday shopping, compared to 43 percent at this time last year. That would suggest that stores should experience increased sales in the coming weeks.
In addition, 24 percent of consumers said they will shop on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season. Last year, 20 percent said they would shop on Black Friday.
