May 8: Jewel, The HD Hottie

Washington, D.C. (May 8, 2009) -- Following our extremely popular contest, 'HD Hottie Hysteria,' we've started a new feature in which we will highlight a top female star every day. The gorgeous female will come from a program that can be seen in gorgeous high-def that very day.

Today's 'HD Hottie' is the singer Jewel, who stars tonight in high-def on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.

The 34-year-old singer/actress, who was born in Utah (as Jewel Kilcher), hit the big time at the age of 21 with the release of her first album, Pieces of You. Recorded when she was just 19, the album produced several Top 10 hits and sold more than 12 million copies.

Jewel has continued to release new albums over the years, but she has also dabbled with acting, appearing in such films and TV shows as Ride With the Devil, Men in Trees, 7th Heaven, and The Young & the Restless.

She was scheduled to be a contestant on the current season of Dancing With the Stars, but had to excuse herself due to injuries.
