September 8: Kate Beckinsale, Today's HD Hottie

Washington, D.C. (September 8, 2009) -- Following our extremely popular contest, 'HD Hottie Hysteria,' we've started a new feature in which we will highlight a top female star every day. The gorgeous female will come from a program that can be seen in gorgeous high-def that very day.

Today's 'HD Hottie' is Kate Beckinsale, who stars tonight in high-def on Late Night With Conan O'Brien at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.

The 36-year-old actress, who was born in London, England, got her first big break in Emma, a 1996 TV movie based on Jane Austen's book. But she quickly soared to indie fame in such films as The Last Days of Disco and Cold Comfort Farm.

Beckinsale hit the big time in the States in this decade with starring turns in Pearl Harbor and the Underworld series, in which she played a leather-clad, werewolf-hunting vampire.

Her most recent film, Nothing But the Truth, was based on the life of former New York Times reporter, Judith Miller, who was imprisoned in Virginia for refusing to reveal a source's identity. And Kate will star in a new movie opening this week called Whiteout.
