Washington, D.C. (January 16, 2012) -- Following our extremely popular contest, 'HD Hottie Hysteria,' we've started a new feature in which we will highlight a top female star every day. The gorgeous female will come from a program that can be seen in gorgeous high-def that very day.
Today's 'HD Hottie' is Maria Sharapova who will play today in the first round of The Australian Open on ESPN 2 at 9 p.m. ET.
The tennis great was unable to play a few years ago due to a rotator cuff injury. But she has returned to action and won her first two matches in the 2010 French Open.
The 24-year-old tennis star was born in Russia, but moved to the United States at the age of seven to attend a tennis academy. She turned professional in 2001 and stunned the tennis world by winning Wimbledon in 2004, defeating the heavily-favored Serena Williams.
Blessed with stunning good looks, the blonde Sharapova has become one of sports' best-paid athletes thanks to endorsements deals with companies such as Canon, Colgate and Tropicana.
Maria is considered one of the favorites to win the Australian Open, which begins today.
