September 1: Maria Sharapova, The HD Hottie

Washington, D.C. (September 1, 2009) -- Following our extremely popular contest, 'HD Hottie Hysteria,' we've started a new feature in which we will highlight a top female star every day. The gorgeous female will come from a program that can be seen in gorgeous high-def that very day.

Today's 'HD Hottie' is Maria Sharapova who will play this week in the U.S. Open on ESPN 2.

The tennis great has been unable to play in recent months due to a rotator cuff injury. But she has returned to action and won her first two matches at this year's French Open. Despite being ranked just #29 at this year's U.S. Open, some tennis experts think Maria has a good chance of reaching the later rounds.

The 22-year-old tennis star was born in Russia, but moved to the United States at the age of seven to attend a tennis academy. She turned professional in 2001 and stunned the tennis world by winning Wimbledon in 2004, defeating the heavily-favored Serena Williams.

Blessed with stunning good looks, the blonde Sharapova has become one of sports' best-paid athletes thanks to endorsements deals with companies such as Canon, Colgate and Tropicana.
