HDTV Review: HP's 65-Inch 1080p DLP
CNET gives it a score of 8.3 out of a possible 10.
By Phillip Swann

Washington, D.C. (December 2, 2006) -- The PC company Hewlett-Packard is now looking to secure a place in the TV business. And if the performance of its 65-inch DLP rear-projection set is any indicator, it might succeed.

That's the conclusion of a review by the technology web site, CNET.com.

CNET gives the HP
MD6580n 65-inch set a score of 8.3 out of a possible 10. The web site says the set delivers "accurate color temperature; excellent black-level performance (and) accepts 1080p sources via HDMI."

While the HP high-def set doesn't deliver the best 1080p performance, CNET says, its "innovative design and future-ready inputs may tip the scales in its favor anyway."

The HP MD6580n retails for approximately $3,500, but can be purchased for less online.

The set offers a resolution of
1,920x1,080; picture-in-picture; a ATSC high-def tuner; two HDMI inputs; and a CableCard slot.

"
When displaying 1080i HDTV, the HP MD6580n looked great, and we were impressed by the vivid colors and sharp picture," CNET says. "In an appearance by President Jimmy Carter in HDNet's World Report, for example, we were easily able to see the individual threads in his suit jacket.
