CE firms such as Samsung, Philips and Mitsubishi this year have launched 3D high-def sets and products, saying the technology has the potential to re-invent the concept of home viewing.
While Hyundai says it has no plans to introduce its 3D HDTV outside of Japan, the launch there is more evidence of the industry's growing interest in the category.
The AP reports that watching Hyundai's 3D HDTV stretches the definition of reality, making objects appear to be in your living room.
The wire service writes that the 46-inch LCD set, which retails for $3,960, requires 3D glasses. Additionally, the only 3D programming now available on cable are segments on the island of Hokkaido and some nature shorts.
