Indie Film Suppliers See Green In Blu-ray
The production companies are ramping up.

That's according to an article by Video Business.
Until this year, independent film companies were shy to issue Blu-ray releases due to high disc replication costs and uncertainty over the high-def disc format war.
However, Toshiba's decision to exit the HD DVD business apparently will open the flood gates for Blu-ray indie releases.
Image Entertainment tells Video Business that it will double its Blu-ray lineup to 20 titles in 2008 and Tartan will release two Blu titles this year -- Lady Vengeance and A Tale of Two Sisters. (The company released just one Blu title last year.)
Although Blu-ray production costs can be two to three times more than for standard-def DVDs, the indie film companies believe they can no longer wait.
“I just think in the same way that we were involved early on with DVD, this is the way of the future in packaged goods,” Garrett Lee, senior vice president of product development at Image, told Video Business.
The increased interest from indie production companies should lead to an expanded lineup of Blu-ray titles from small filmmakers in the second half of this year.
