Will You Buy an
iPhone 5?
By Swanni
Washington, D.C.
(September 12, 2012)
-- Apple today is expected to unveil the
company's latest iPhone, likely to be called the iPhone 5.
The device's announcement will be accompanied by huge
expectations with some analysts saying it will sell 10 million
in the first week and possibly improve the nation's Gross
National Product.
Why are so many people abuzz over the new phone?
Of course, the mere mention of a new Apple product triggers long
lines at retail and seemingly endless queues at online
checkouts. The company has been able to turn the iPad into a
cultural phenomenon and Lord knows how many iPhones it has
sold to date. Not to mention, Apple is still the maker of the
Mac, the most popular alternative to the PC.
But what will make the iPhone 5 so special that it could lead to
our economy improving?; no small achievement these days. Here
are some likely new features, according to various analysts and
news sources:
Bigger Screen
The new iPhone is expected to upgrade from a 3.5-inch screen to
a 4-inch screen. The screen is also supposed to be a bit taller.
Will a .5 screen size update really matter? Well, if you've ever
squinted at some data on an iPhone screen in a semi-dark room,
you already know the answer.
Smaller Dock Connector
This may not seem like a big deal, but Apple hasn't changed the
size of its dock connector since the early iPod. Not sure how
this is a plus, but I'm sure Apple CEO Tim Cook will tell us
today.
4G LTE
The iPhone 5 is expected to include the faster speeds of 4G LTE,
which is great but will 4G LTE also shorten the device's battery
life, as it tends to do? Again, Mr. Cook, the ball is in your
court.
A Better Siri
The Siri digital voice assistant is easily the most talked about
new feature in the iPhone 4S. But many users and analysts have
given Siri mixed reviews, noting that "she" often is stumped for
answers or totally misinterprets your question. Apple was
careful to note that the iPhone 4S Siri was still a 'Beta'
product. Perhaps the iPhone 5 Siri will be new and improved.
There have been other rumors such as a panoramic camera feature,
a better cloud storage system so you can more easily access your
Apple media, and a retina display, which is found on the new
iPad. But we'll have to wait until 1 p.m. Pacific today to find
out. That's when Cook will take the stage and begin work on
fixing our economy.
