That's according to a new article by PC World.
The publication reports that Sony is offering technical assistance to adult film studios in Japan, something that's been lacking in the U.S.
Adult studios here have complained that Sony, the leading Blu-ray booster, and associated companies have been uncooperative in their efforts to make copies of their films on Blu-ray. Consequently, some have opted by default to release their movies on HD DVD, the rival high-def disc format.
However, a Japanese company supervising Blu-ray adult film releases says it's partnering with a Taiwanese company to get the proper replication equipment from Sony.
"In Japan, there are some problems. Companies cannot press Blu-ray discs because they cannot touch adult-related contracts," Kiyotaka Konno of Assist Corp., which replicates DVDs in Japan, told PC World. "So we asked some makers in Taiwan to do the work, and then we import the discs back to Japan. The Taiwanese company was able to obtain a pressing machine from Sony and will start mass production in August."
Sony says it has not changed its policy of forbidding its replicating company, Sony DADC, to make copies of adult films. But it adds that it will offer technical support to adult studios if requested.
PC World reports that Japanese adult studios have already released 10 movies on Blu-ray, including Sex Vacation in Guam and Eroist. Only one Japanese adult title -- Perfect Slave Rin -- has been released on HD DVD.
Despite HD DVD's porn advantage in the U.S., the publication writes that several adult film studios here have not released titles as promised.
The shift in Japan could signal that Blu-ray will become more popular with the adult business in the U.S. as well.
