JVC Unveils First 'Full HD' Camcorder
The camera will be available in April.

CES (January 7, 2007) -- JVC today introduced a new High-Definition camcorder that records in "Full HD," or 1920x1080i resolution.

The Everio GZ-HD7 camera, which is expected to be available in April, will retail for
$1,799.95.

The camcorder is targeted to the high-end home video enthusiast. But it could also appeal to consumers who have recently purchased HDTVs that display in the higher resolution format.

JVC says it's the world's first camcorder to record in 1920x1080i.

The camcorder will record on a built-in 60GB hard drive and will store up to five hours of 1920x1080i high-def video. Seven hours can be recorded at 1440x1080i.

The camera will feature three CCDs and Fujinon lenses. Other features include optical image stabilization, manual controls, multiple digital connections, bundled editing and archiving software, and availability of an optional HD Everio "Share Station" for easily transferring footage to disc.

The 'Share Station" must be purchased separately for a retail price of $399.

Because it records in the MPEG2 Transport Stream video format, the camcorder's video can be archived on Blu-ray high-def discs using provided software and a HDTV Blu-ray recorder.
