JVC Launches 'Wall' Rear Projection HDTV
A new technology enables wall mounting for what was once considered a bulky set.
By Phillip Swann

Washington, D.C. (December 14, 2006) -- Until now, if you tried to mount a rear projection set on the wall, people would say you had a hole in your head.

Not to mention the hole in the wall

However, JVC today introduced two 1080p "HD-ILA" rear projection sets that are suitable for wall mounting. The sets use a new light engine that allows for a slimmer design.

The news was reported today by TWICE magazine.

The sets, the 58-inch HD-58S998 (price: $3,299.95) and the 65-inch HD-65S998 (price: $4,199.95), have a cabinet depth of just 10.7 and 11.6 inches respectively, TWICE reports.

JVC officials said the sets' optical engine design uses a concave mirror that offers a wider projection angle.

TWICE
said the 58-inch set is scheduled to ship to retailers in January with the 65-inch HDTV available in March.
