By Phillip Swann

Washington, D.C. (January 24, 2007) -- KHOU-TV, the CBS affiliate in Houston, will begin broadcasting news programs in High-Definition on Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 4).

The station, channel 11 in the Houston area, will produce the evening and nightly newscasts in high-def as well as Great Day Houston, the station's 9 a.m. talk show.

Station officials say KHOU will be the first station in Houston to switch to high-def news.

“The superior quality of High Definition will give 11News viewers with HD capabilities a local news experience like never before,” says Peter Diaz, KHOU-TV President and General Manager. “We’re pleased to be the first station in the market to bring this new technology to Houston area news viewers.”

There are approximately 25-30 stations across the country now broadcasting local news programs in HDTV.
