LG's 100-Inch HDTV: One For the Books
Guinness names the flat-screen TV the world's largest LCD.
By Phillip Swann

Washington, D.C. (October 12, 2006) -- You can't buy it yet so you can't watch it. But, evidently, you can name it the world's largest LCD TV.

That's what the renown Guinness Book of World Records has done for LG Electronics' new 100-inch liquid crystal display TV.

The set, which was introduced at last January's Consumer Electronics Show, measures 100 inches diagonally and is approximately 1.5 times larger than its nearest competitor, Samsung's 82-inch LCD.

Guinness officials said the set is the first entry in its new "Science & Technology Gadgets" section. Under the tag, "World's Largest LCD Screen," the book notes that the set offers a resolution of 6.22 million pixels with "full HD" picture quality.

Panasonic earlier this year introduced a 103-inch Plasma TV, which it dubbed the world's largest TV of any kind. The Plasma set is expected to be available for sale by year's end with a price tag of $70,000.

No word on when LG's 100-inch LCD will be available.
