-- LG has announced that it has developed a a 5-inch, 1080p LCD
screen designed for "smart devices," such as smart phones.
The company, which says the new display will have a 16:9 aspect
ratio and a 1920x1080 resolution, may be seeking to target the
new iPhone from Apple which reportedly will offer a 4-inch
screen. While LG's press release does not say the 5-inch screen
will be offered in a LG smart phone, it's expected that the
company will launch one later this year.
LG says the 5-inch HD screen will be available in the second
half of the year.
In addition to boasting a bigger screen, LG says it will be
feature a 440ppi pixel density, which exceeds the 330ppi Retina
display found on Apple's iPhone4 and iPhone 4S. However, Apple
could bump up on the pixel density on the new iPhone when it's
released, likely this fall,.
LG says the 5-inch display will be showcased at next month's SID
2012 Display Week trade show in Boston. _____________________________________________________________________________
