Mississippi ABC Station Switches to HD News
By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (April 25, 2012) -- WTOK-TV, the ABC affiliate in Meridian, Mississippi, today began broadcasting its local news programs in High-Definition.

The station, which is owned by Gray Television, made the switch today with the 5 p.m. newscast.

WTOK-TV said at its web site that it added new HD cameras, technical upgrades to the control room, a new set design and a new graphics package.

"It has been a long time coming, and it has been a lot of hard work for the last few months to get all of this ready," said WTOK general manager Tim Walker. "Every staff member here has done double duty to get this done."

There are now more than 500 local stations producing local news programs in high-def.
