2 California Stations Switching to HD News
By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (June 29, 2011) -- KCOY-TV, the CBS affiliate in the Santa Barbara/Santa Maria area of California, is converting its local news programs to High-Definition, TVNewsCheck.com reports.

The station, which is owned by Cowles California Media, is also converting its sister station, the Fox affiliate KKFX-TV, to high-def newscasts.

TVNewsCheck.com writes that the station spent seven months in the transition process, building a new HD news suite and installing news equipment. KCOY broadcasts six hours of news each day.

"The continued hard work of our engineering department and a dedicated team of KCOY employees made this project possible”, said General Manager Kevin Harlan. “The stations’ owners, Cowles California supported our decision to be the first in the market to deliver this technology to our viewers.”

There are now more than 300 local stations producing local news programs in HD.
