WAVY-TV, the NBC affiliate, and WVBT-TV, the Fox affiliate, both made the switch with the 10 p.m. newscast. The two stations are both owned by the LIN TV broadcasting group.
“We are excited to deliver our viewers excellent news and weather content in dynamic color and clarity,” said Kathy Hostetter, News Director for WAVY TV and FOX 43. “Our advancement into HD is just one more way we are On Your Side in the community."
The stations, which share a studio, worked with the lighting design firm FX Group to create a new set for the high-def production. The set covers more than 2,100 square feet and had a complete floor renovation during the month it took to construct.
The new production features a new anchor desk, a new Super Doppler 10 Weather Center, an interview area and 30 displays including two 71-inch DLP HDTVs.
There are now more than 90 local stations that deliver local newscasts in high-def.
