The station says the switch occurred on August 3, making it the first in the area to offer high-def newscasts.
However, WVTM-TV, the NBC affiliate in Birmingham, was the first station in Alabama to offer local HD newscasts.
WSFA, known as 12 News in the Montgomery area, said it invested more than a million dollars over the past year on switch to HD, adding new weather and news sets in the studios.
"Providing local news and weather in High Definition furthers our community commitment to quality coverage," said Ken Selvaggi, WSFA's Vice-President and General Manager.
WSFA 12 News is owned by the Montgomery-based Raycom Media.
There are now more than 100 local stations producing the local news in high-def.
