December 7: Swanni's 10 Hottest Shows In HDTV!

By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (December 7, 2009) -- High-Definition TVs are now in more than 40 million U.S. homes and there are scores of high-def programming choices.

But which shows should you watch? And why?

Every day here at TVPredictions.com, I scan the HD programming aisles and serve up 10 programs so good -- so hot! -- that you can't miss them. Sports, movies, primetime comedies and drama -- they're all there and in beautiful high-def.

We call this list, "The Hottest Shows in HDTV!" And here they are for Monday, December 7, 2009: (All times Eastern -- and don't forget the link below to today's 'HD Hottie -- in fact, today there are 6 of them!

1.  Pearl Harbor
Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett ham it up as best friends who battle the Japanese on that fateful day more than 60 years ago. The Michael Bay directed film is scattered and preachy (much like Bay himself), but the CGI-fueled battle scenes at Pearl Harbor are breathtaking and well worth your time. Kate Beckinsale plays an obligatory hot nurse and love interest. (Note: Today marks the 68th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor.)

Starz Edge, 5:50 p.m.

2. Carrie Underwood: An All-Star Holiday Special
The country western singer will warble some holiday tunes and some cuts from her latest CD (of course) -- and Dolly Parton,
David Cook and Brad Paisley will join Carrie on stage.

Fox, 8 p.m.

3. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Director Michael Bay stuffed this sequel with even more CGI effects than the first Transformers. But Shia LeBeouf and Megan Fox (talk about a special effect) make for a winning pair as they try to save the Earth from the creepy metallic monsters. Fun for the entire family, albeit dumb fun.

Cable and satellite HD VOD, various times.

4. Drag Me to Hell
Alison Lohman shines as a mousey bank loan officer whose life turns into a living Hell when she rejects an old gypsy's request for an extension on her mortgage. Justin Long ("Mac" from the Mac/PC commercials) delivers a sympathetic ear as her boyfriend while the underrated David Paymer is superb as the obligatory cold-hearted bank manager. But the real star is writer/director Sam Raimi who turns a worn horror plot into a clever satire of the struggle to survive in tough economic times.

Cable and satellite HD VOD, various times.

5. NFL Football
The Ravens take on the Packers.
ESPN, 8:30 p.m.

6
. Gossip Girl (new)
Program descript: "A car accident rocks the Upper East Side." Come on, nothing rocks the Upper East Side, unless it's an increase in the price of Dom Perignon.

CW, 9 p.m.

7. The Jay Leno Show (new)
Jaws is back! Tonight, he's got Susan Sarandon who will wander by to hawk her new film, The Lovely Bones. And once upon a time, she had some very lovely bones indeed.
NBC, 10 p.m.

8. CSI: Miami (new)
The crew investigates the murder of a U.S. census worker. Hmm, if this is one of those 'pulled from the headlines' deals, that census worker recently found dead in Kentucky actually committed suicide.
CBS, 10 p.m.

9
. Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien (new)
Tonight's guests include
OCD victim Howie Mandel who will wander by without shaking the host's hand.
NBC, 11:35 p.m.

10. Late Night With David Letterman (new)
Tonight's guests include Ray Romano who will wander by to hawk his new TNT show, and actress Anna Kendrick, who will wander by to hawk her new film, Up in the Air. She will then tell the carnal-minded host that there will be no Mile High Club for him.
CBS, 11:35 p.m.
