FX Axes Russell Brand Talk Show
By Allison Moore
Washington, D.C. (June 7, 2013) --
FX has announced that it has cancelled the late night talk show,
Brand X With Russell Brand, after 26 episodes.
However, the network said it planned to stay in business with
the bawdy comedian by developing a Curb Your Enthusiasm-like
show based on Brand's life.
Why did Brand's talk show get the ax?
HitFix.com reports that FX executives believe that another late
night show starring Kamau Bell, was better prepared to deliver a
regular nightly program. Brand's 26 episode run was thrice
interrupted for various reasons.
"Kamau and (producer) Chris
(Rock) were more ready to convert to a daily show in terms of
their production process," he explained. "We saw more potential
and more upside in the audience response... So essentially we're
moving forward with that and not with 'BrandX,' but we're going
to move forward with Russell on something else," the network
said, according to HitFix.com.
Brand was the star of the movies Arthur and Get Him to the
Greek, but the British comic may best be known in the States for
being the ex-husband of singer Katy Perry.
