The station made the switch to high-def with the 9 p.m. newscast on Saturday night. WGN-TV is the third station in the Chicago area to go high-def with the local news.
WLS, the ABC affiliate, made the switch in 2007, while WMAQ-TV, the NBC affiliate, began offering HD newscasts last January.
There are now more than 90 local stations nationwide that offer high-def newscasts.
